In antiquity, churches were the center of villages, towns, and cities. The regular recitation of psalms and prayers of the Church served as pillars by which to mark the day's time. Unfortunately, that is largely untrue in our day and age. However, the Church still calls us to join in ALL of Her public prayer in order to center our lives on prayer. In an attempt to encourage a wider parochial devotion to the Divine Office, our parish has expanded its service schedule to include the regular singing of Choral Vespers.
Our first such service will be on Sunday, September 11th at 3:30pm, to commemorate the fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost. A light reception will follow - I hope you and your families will join us then.
“It is, moreover, fitting that the office, both in choir and in common, be sung when possible. Pastors of souls should see to it that the chief hours, especially Vespers, are celebrated in common in church on Sundays and the more solemn feasts. And the laity, too, are encouraged to recite the divine office, either with the priests, or among themselves, or even individually.”
